Research & Transparency

The Science Behind the Shot

Every health claim we make is backed by peer-reviewed research. We believe in radical transparency — here's the evidence.

Why Polyphenols Matter

Polyphenols are the bioactive compounds in olive oil associated with its health benefits. Unlike total fat content or calorie counts, polyphenol density is the true marker of olive oil quality. The EU officially recognizes that olive oils with 250mg/kg+ of polyphenols can carry cardiovascular health claims.

Poba's harvest contains ≥500mg/kg polyphenols based on producer data — more than double the EU threshold.* Independent third-party testing is pending.

≥500mg/kg

Polyphenol density based on producer data — over 2× the EU health claim threshold*

What the Research Shows

1. Heart Health — In the PREDIMED trial, participants supplementing with EVOO experienced a significant reduction in major cardiovascular events. This remains one of the largest dietary intervention studies ever conducted. View Study

2. Cognitive Support — Oleocanthal, a phenolic compound in premium EVOO, has been studied for its potential role in supporting brain health by assisting in the clearance of beta-amyloid. View Study

3. Anti-Inflammatory Properties — Oleocanthal shares a similar mechanism of action to ibuprofen, according to research published in Nature. Consistent intake may help support a healthy inflammatory response. View Study

These findings come from studies on olive oil / EVOO dietary intake. Individual results may vary.

Olive oil quality testing

Quality analysis ensures every batch meets our polyphenol standards.

Our Quality Commitment

We source from family-owned groves that practice early-harvest picking — when polyphenol content peaks. The oil is cold-pressed within hours of harvest and sealed in UV-protected dark glass vials to preserve freshness. Independent third-party testing is planned to further verify our quality standards.

*Polyphenol content (≥500 mg/kg) based on producer data. Independent third-party testing pending. These statements have not been evaluated by the FDA. Poba is a food product and is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease.
